In Tokyo again for the Holiday season, but this year we heard that Shibuya was going to have an American Style New Years Celebration, so we went to check it out.
Needless to say, it was packed:
Too packed for this country boy. Being very familiar with the Oklahoma City New Years, I’m used to larger crowds being free to move from venue to venue to check out live acts, but most of this was shoulder to should shoving. And when they started handing out free items? …Fuggedaboutit…. It was a mad dash that turned a possible good experience into an unenjoyable one.
If I was as drunk as the surrounding crowd was and as the above cartoon implies, I wouldn’t have minded… but I wasn’t. So I played my unofficial theme song, and me and the wife left, just barely making it out before they closed the main Subway entrance.
Long story short, if you like crowds, get there early, have a strong bladder, and bring your own alcohol, then you might enjoy the Shibuya New Years celebration.
Otherwise, just get together with some freinds and loved ones and enjoy each others company.
Until next time, STAY AWESOME!
