Japanese Vocabulary: “Kappatsu”

In Japanese, there are many words or phrases that don’t have a single-word translation.
I came across this one on a Japanese language learning site (www.tanoshiijapanese.com) that used excerpts from the book “The Solitary Castle in the Mirror”.

I found the phrase “kappatsu” (活発) interesting because it was my first time seeing lively to describe a person. Usually lively is used to describe places with the word “nigiyaka”(賑やか).
